Guidance Notes for Content Authors

These Guidance Notes will help Content Authors in using the Faversham Website’s new Content Management System (CMS) to edit their page(s).
They should be read in conjunction with the Design & Style Guidelines.

1. Introduction

The Content Management System (CMS) is a comprehensive system for managing and administrating the Faversham Website faversham.org using an online editor accessed via a normal web browser.
It allows for individuals to access designated parts of the web site using a personal username and password issued by the website.

Editors can log in here

Who has access to what is strictly controlled by the website team. Normally, a Content Author will only have access to his/her own page and not to any other pages on the website, unless so allowed by the website team.

The Technical Manager, on behalf of the Editorial Board of the Faversham Website and all Content Authors, has absolute discretion as to what content is included or excluded. This is a safeguard against misuse and undesirable and improper content being published.

All Content Authors will be expected to provide assurances that what they publish is in accordance with:-

  • the website’s Terms and Conditions,
  • the website’s Design and Style Guidelines and
  • they accept that all copy is subject to editing in the overall interests of the site and that the Faversham Website's decision in such circumstances is final

The website team monitor all pages changed during the previous week and retains the right to edit copy if any changes made to a page are not in accordance with any of the above.

Content Authors are encouraged to advise the website team of any other content which they feel is undesirable and/or improper.

NB Once you have finished using the online editor, please remember to logout!

2. How to Get to a Web Page to Edit

How you get to a web page to edit depends on whether you are an entry in the Business Directory, or not.

Business Directory Entries

The website team will issue you with a username and password. Just go the the CMS URL (see Quick Links above) and login.
You will be taken directly to your page to start editing. (see 3. Editing the Page below)

Non Business Directory Entries

The website team will issue you with a username and password. Just go the the CMS URL (see Quick Links above) and login.
You will need need to know in which part of the website your page is located and its navigation trail eg community/clubs and societies/arts and crafts/faversham knitting club. To find this, just go to your page and the navigation trail is shown on the top left under the horizontal toolbar "You are here'

The online editor, with functionality somewhere between WordPad and MS Word, enables you to edit your page and save your changes, which immediately makes the amended page live.

You can then go to the website proper and view the changes.

In view of this, if you are not sure what a particular function button is for, do not use it. If you inadvertently make a page live with a mistake, go back to that page within the CMS and correct it. In cases of difficulty, please contact the website team.

Text Changes

You can amend and/or delete your text using the function buttons just as you would in your word processor.

Image Changes

If you want to add, change or remove an image, please seek help from the website team. In the cases of adding or replace an image, the new image will need to be uploaded on into the Image Library on system by the website team.
