1215 Runnymede Revisited

An art exhibition ‘1215  Runnymede Revisited’ inspired by the Magna Carta is being held at St Peter’s Church, Oare.  The show features a display of contemporary and traditional art in medieval media: batik, fresco, iconography, egg tempera, stitchery, stained glass, watercolour, bronze sculpture and manuscript illumination.

The exhibition combines international and Kent based artists of notable accomplishment.

Oare Village Hall  has an exhibition of colourful cut outsin the style of Matisse -  ‘1215 Matisse in Oare’  - by children from
Davington Primary School and 6/13th Oare, Faversham Beaver Scouts. 

It reflects their responses to the story of the Magna Carta in a series of story boards around the hall.

Both exhibitions are part of the Canterbury Festival and Artists’ Open Houses 2015.
The events run for three weekends starting on the 17th October and finishing on 1st November 2015. Time: 11am – 4pm

Refreshments: Tea, Coffee and homemade cakes will be available at Oare Village Hall  during the exhibition.

St Peter’s Church, Oare is also hosting  two umbrella events of the Canterbury Festival:

Unrevealed Iconography

An illustrated talk on bronze icons of the formerly persecuted sect known as Old Believers by sculptor Aleksandras Aleksjevas.
October 21st 2015 – 7.15pm

Heart Rhythms

An evening of Music and Poetry. Medway poet Bill Lewis with music by cellist Nicci Whitaker.

Icons, What are they and what are they for?

An illustrated talk which examines the Icon’s role in the early English Church.  The talk is by Ann Welch curator of the ‘1215 Runnymede Revisited’ exhibition.
