All systems are go!
What does it take to organise an event?
Already in November as the leaves are falling off the trees, the nights are drawing in and most people’s focus turns to Christmas; in the FBP office we are starting to think about the annual Faversham Transport Weekend in May 2016.
The date has been set (21 and 22 May 2016) and already discussions regarding park and ride, commercial vehicle displays, liaising with sponsors and partners, decisions about possible bus routes for the vintage buses, and the all important marshalling of the event are all taking place to ensure this popular weekend event runs smoothly.
The Faversham Transport Weekend offers a glimpse of the beautiful historical journey of 'travel through time’. As I write this in the year 2015, this was the year when the famous ‘Back to the Future’ went forward! Traditionally Saturday has been about the large commercial vehicles, bus rides and a buzzing market, and Sunday over 330 vintage collectable cars and bikes fill the town centre.
During the weekend you will be able to enjoy the delights of sitting on a vintage bus and be taken on a journey to a nearby village (on Saturday only), have a pit-stop at the Purifier Building (in the Morrison’s Car park) where the Faversham Creek Trust will be showcasing boat-building skills and the historical importance of the creek through the ages and offering refreshments too. And at Standard Quay the National Playbus Association will be providing a play, sensory and educational experience on their workshop buses. In town there will be live music, delicious food and drink, funfair and lots of wonderful vehicles on display.
No event happens without teamwork
It is always wonderful that many local businesses sponsor this event, show their financial support and offer park-and-ride facilities that benefit everyone. The weekend brings thousands to the area, who enjoy the displays, the atmosphere in the town and the opportunity to meet like-minded enthusiasts too; it really is a fantastic family day-out.
Our hope for 2016 is that we can find more local residents who will consider being a volunteer event marshal. To run an event you have to have lots of marshals; to greet, offer help and advice, and on Sunday guide 100’s of cars into parking spaces! If you think you can spare some hours over the May weekend we would be delighted to hear from you.

We will have all the vehicle and stall forms on faversham.org early January, and will be up-dating the page on faversham.org as we progress www.faversham.org/carshow
We are really looking forward to working with all our sponsors and supporters in 2016, and making the Faversham Transport Weekend even better.
