Beer has been brewed at the Faversham Brewery, set in the heart of this delightful Kentish market town, since at least 1573. Today, our skilled brewers combinetraditional methods and modern technology used to produce a range of superb Kentish Ales and speciality lagers.
You can take a look behind the scenes on an award-winning guided tour on that will give you an insight into the history, tradition, pride and passion that goes to make Shepherd Neame beers. Meet your expert guide at the Visitor Centre, a beautifully restored medieval hall house, and then head through the heart of this busy brewery to see how beer is crafted.
In the brewhouse you will see traditional mash tuns, taste malted barley, sample natural mineral water from our own well and smell locally-grown Kentish hops. You will also see the fermenters and learn how yeast produces distinctive flavours, sparkle and alcohol in the finished product. Tours usually include a visit to The Old Brewery Store which houses displays of bygone pub signs, hop picking memorabilia, a recreated cooper’s workshop and a collection historic delivery vehicles.
Of course, we won’t let you leave without giving you the chance to sample the beer and your guide will lead you through a tutored tasting of several ales and lagers - audience participation encouraged! Finally, leave time to browse in the Brewery Shop and pick a souvenir, gift or even some beer!
