Mrs. Catrin Woodend (Headteacher)
The Abbey School is an 11 – 19 co-educational school situated on the rural outskirts of Faversham. The grounds are pleasant and extensive and the school is well-resourced with modern facilities including a new canteen complex with business conference centre and ICT training suite. Recent additions include a Sports Hall, Fitness Suite and Vocational Centre.
Strong links exist between the school, parents and the local community and the development of these relationships has benefited the school enormously. The business and community partnerships are very important to the school and have greatly influenced the main direction towards Business and Enterprise Status.
Work-related learning is an increasingly important aspect of the school’s curriculum, particularly for students aged 14-19. Building on our close partnerships with The Brogdale Trust and Hadlow College, the school was chosen to accommodate a new vocational centre, one of the first of its kind in the country, specialising in Horticulture and Catering.
All students at The Abbey School are valued as individuals and student welfare is a high priority. All students are encouraged to access a broad and balanced curriculum, and when students need additional support the Student Support and Guidance Team offers a range of expertise to support their learning experiences. Enhancing the community aspect is a nursery school, a nationally acclaimed autism unit and Adult Education has a base on the school site.
The school has been recently re-awarded Investors in People status, the FA Charter Standard and has achieved Healthy Schools Status for the work it does ensuring that students are safe, happy and healthy.
