Creek Creative background

Simon Giles and Anne MacLaren set up Creek Creative Studios in 2008, taking on the No.1 Abbey Street premises in July 2009, and were soon joined by a solid core of talented volunteers. Together they have turned the empty shell of a unique building into a supportive environment for those local innovators, artists, and individuals who enjoy working in a vibrant studio complex:

  • Professional Visual Artists
  • Art and Design Graduates
  • Designer-makers
  • Silversmiths
  • Illustrators
  • Web & Media Designers
  • Writers & Filmmakers
  • Small Arts Organisations
  • Musicians and Theatre Performers

Boost to local culture and productivity

For five years this art centre project has evolved, and continues to extend Faversham's rich history of Creek-based activity, by hosting a productive mix of local and independent creative practitioners, enabling them to work, trade, and develop their specialist skills in an affordable arts-based facility.

Studio, Gallery, and Performance Areas

All the Ground, First Floor and Lower Ground Floor Studios are usually occupied (but do check with the office as established studios are vacated or new ones become available occasionally), and building work has progressed well with the Performance Space and Lower Gallery nearing completion. Communication and display of work is vital to the creative process, which is why public gallery space and performance areas are provided, in parallel with the virtual galleries soon to re-open on the website: www.creek-creative.org.

Creative skill development

The on-site creative skills workshops, are open to all, and are in high demand. Forthcoming Day / Short Courses and all events will be listed on the reconstructed website, but in the meantime until it goes live please see the Creek Creative Facebook page (www.facebook.com/Studio.Provider) for updates.

Community Interest Company

As a CIC, with modest funding help to date, this art centre still needs your support! The organisation is committed to always utilise any investment as efficiently as possible, to help improve the range and quality of facilities offered to the artists and the public, while striving to make the conversion of No.1 Abbey Street continue to enhance its unique character. There is still much work to do, especially on the Lower Ground Floor, by restoring the building's endearing features, such as the cast iron pillars and glazed-brick barrel ceilings, while upgrading lighting and heating etc. in key areas, plus improving the flooring, partitions and workshop equipment, and suitably equipping the Performance Space and Lower Gallery.

Connections and support

If you wish to help with funding, or to get involved practically, phone 01795 535 515 or email info@creekcreative.org the office, or perhaps visit and meet the staff after enjoying one of the many exhibitions (which change on average every fortnight).
