Shop opportunities
Historic Faversham continues to draw business interest as one of Kent’s most attractive shopping towns.
For enterprising retailers, the town’s attractive shopping centre has much to offer. Customers look for friendly, personal service unavailable in big impersonal stores in larger centres. They are discerning and look for goods not readily available in chain stores and other large outlets. Some live in larger towns nearby but find shopping in Faversham more convenient and relaxed. There are plenty of eating-places where they can stop for a coffee, snack or a meal; and if they want a drink, the town's pubs are renowned for being welcoming and unspoilt.
Here we report on shop premises available in Faversham, which has below national average unemployment and enjoys retail returns above the Kent average, according to county council data.

A shop at 88 Preston Street, Faversham, next to Superdrug, is to let through the estate agent Cradick Retail (01892 515001). The floor area is 975 sq ft (91 sq m) and the use class is A1. Near by are Boots, HSBC, Thomas Cook and NatWest.
At the southern end of Preston Street, Faversham, the estate agency firms Caxtons and WH Breading have a board on modern shop premises once occupied by Riverside Press.
A Grade II listed building at 39-40 Preston Street, Faversham, which is currently trading as a barber’s shop, is for sale through Pearson Gore. The property, very near Faversham Railway Station, is offered freehold with vacant possession and includes the shop, storage rooms and two kitchens. The building is described in a Faversham Society booklet as “one of the town’s most interesting” despite its having been “sadly mutilated” by an attempt at modernisation some decades back. Underneath rendering applied then is a building of about 1650 that was an example of the elaborate brick architecture brought to east Kent by Dutch settlers. Conservationists hope that the front can be restored to its former glory one day. Pearson Gore is on 01227 463709 and at www.pearsongore.co.uk.
