We are your local branch of the Women's Institute. We meet on the first Tuesday of the Month, 1pm to 3pm at West Faversham Community Centre.
We are a new group, and growing all the time. We have a small committee, which arranges a programme of events for our monthly meetings, which we try to make as interesting and diverse as possible, with a healthy dose of fun thrown in for good measure. We are not a traditional WI, we have not made Jam, and we do not sing Jerusalem! We try and offer a range of speakers to appeal to all interests, including local history, craft demonstrations and nature talks. We have tried on hats, and taste tested local cheeses and meats. We try to be a modern group, for modern women in all walks of life. Although we do like Tea! Lots of Tea!
We are a diverse group, and as well as the monthly meeting, we also have
- a craft group, which meets monthly
- a theatre group, visiting the Marlowe in Canterbury and local theatres
and we are trying to develop new groups and interests as our numbers grow and opportunities develop.
We regularly have outings arranged on a bigger scale, - Canterbury Cathedral Carol Concert, Afternoon teas with well known speakers (for example Sandra Howard - model/authoress) Autumn Day at Alexander Centre in Faversham, visit to the Poppy Factory. We also have an annual East Kent Meeting with big name speakers, 2014 was John Craven, and 2015 will be Michael Portillo.
Why not come and give us a try! Just turn up! You can attend 2 meetings before becoming a member so you can see what it is all about before you sign up. Membership is £36.00 per year payable in January (joining later in the year will have a pro-rata payment).
We have recently set up a face book page www.facebook.com/favershamgunpowderwi which gives more information.
