Biodiversity

Biodiversity means the variety of life. It includes everything from animals, plants and fungi to habitats such as woodland, heathland or saltmarsh. It is a collective term for all life.

Eco-tourism

Ecotourism businesses use environment and nature as a marketing tool and may not be making efforts to reduce their impact on the environment.

Fairtrade means that the producers who make the goods you buy get a price that fairly rewards their work and skills

Green tourism is a term used to describe best environmental practice within the tourism sector.
Green Tourism differs from eco-tourism as Green Tourism businesses must make efforts to reduce their impact on the environment and may not use the environment or nature as a marketing tool.

The Green Tourism BusinessScheme (GTBS) is an accreditation scheme for tourism and tourism relatedbusinesses relating to environmental good practice.

Organic

Organic refers to the way agricultural products—food and fiber—are grown and processed. Organic food production is based on a system of farming that maintains and replenishes soil fertility without the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilizers.

Organic Food

Organic foods are grown with the minimum use of artificial fertilisers, pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. Processed Organic foods contain fewer artificial additives, flavourings and preservatives. Animals reared Organically enjoy a high standard of care and welfare during their lives.
Organic agriculture practices cannot ensure that products are completely free of residues; however, methods are used to minimize pollution from air, soil and water.
Organic food handlers, processors and retailers adhere to standards that maintain the integrity of organic agricultural products. The primary goal of organic agriculture is to optimize the health and productivity of interdependent communities of soil life, plants, animals and people.

Pesticide

Pesticide is a broad term, covering a range of products that are used to control pests. The slug pellets, ant powder, weed killers, and rat and mouse baits that you may use in your everyday life are all pesticides.
Often people only think of pesticides as chemicals, but they include a huge range of different types of products. Some are natural (eg, pyrethrums, obtained from chrysanthemums), while many are altered versions of natural chemicals.

Recycling

The act of processing used or abandoned materials for use in creating new products

Sustainable development is development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs
