Oare Gunpowder Works gunpowder was manufactured for several centuries on a site that has become valuable for wildlife. Visitors are invited to follow the marked trails that lead through the woodlands and grassy glades, past the millpond and discover the remains of industry Oare Gunpowder Works is a unique blend of heritage and wildlife. There is easy parking, well-marked trails and several picnic areas.
Interpretation panels are spread throughout the site and there are more in the visitor centre.
The site is ownerd by Swale Borough Coucncil and managed by The Kent Countryside Management Partnerships (CMP's) and Friends of Oare Gunpowder Works.
Education and events
There are many educational opportunities at Oare Gunpowder Works and a class visit will support many areas of the National Curriculum. This website offers resources to complement a visit by Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils. Many of these resources can be adapted for use with older students and teachers will find a preliminary visit will trigger many ideas.
