Friends of the Earth local groups are a voluntary network campaigning to improve the environment locally, nationally and internationally.

Swale Friends of the Earth members are from different backgrounds and are all passionate about creating a thriving world for everyone. That means a healthy, natural environment and a fair economy in which everyone’s needs are met, now and in the long run.

Swale Friends of the Earth reflects national FoE campaigns and also gets involved in many local issues. We increase environmental awareness locally and bring a different perspective to debates in Swale like land-use, food, planning, energy and climate, protection of natural heritage, sustainable development etc.

Swale FoE are looking for people to join us locally to get active on environmental issues.

If you live in Swale and are concerned about issues such as climate change, biodiversity and transport, as well as specific local issues, then we’d love to hear from you. Why not come along to our meetings?

We meet in the Old Wine Vaults, Preston Street, Faversham, at 7.30pm on the second Tuesday of the month.

A key focus for 2017 is our Climate Change event, ‘One and a Half Degrees’, which will take place at the Alexander Centre,  Faversham, on 17 June, with contributions from a broad a variety of organisations. The event will:

  • Highlight the likely outcomes of climate change, locally and globally;
  • Find ways of engaging local people to address the issue on a personal level, as well as collectively; and
  • Demonstrate how sustainability can be maintained locally in the light of changing conditions.

In the past few years we’ve organised and presented:

  • Environmental film screenings;
  • Talks by campaigners and experts;
  • Debates about environmental issues between candidates at election times; and
  • Green and ethical Christmas fairs.

There is no formal membership of Swale Friends of the Earth. If you’d like to know more about the group, please get in touch or simply come to the next meeting. You will be very welcome.
