Scouting in Faversham

Home / Community / Youth and young people / Scouting in Faversham

Scouting is enjoyed by young people across the globe, and Faversham is part of the family.  It is a challenge and adventure for all those who take part. There’s plenty on offer for every age:

  • Beavers   6 – 8 years
  • Cubs   8 -10 ½ years
  • Scouts 10 ½  - 14 years
  • Explorers 14 - 18 years
  • Network 18 - 25 years
  • Leaders  (18 +)

What do Beavers, Cub and Scouts do?
• explore the outdoors
• go camping
• make friends
• play games
• try new things
• and above all enjoy themselves ...

Explorers start at 14 years old, young people come out of the groups and into the District where they meet new people and learn new skills.  Faversham has a Land and a Sea Unit for Young People to join and continue their time in Scouting.
Then onto Network, now they are adults and look after themselves.  Moving on to complete their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and their Queen Scout Award.  Faversham has one Network Unit that programmes in all aspects of land and sea scouting.
The most important aspect of Scouting is to have fun and enjoy yourself whether you are a 6 year old Beaver or a 70 year old Leader.

We have four different groups in the District providing fun activities from the age of 6 through to 14 years old.

The 1st Faversham Scout Group

The 8th Faversham Sea Scout Group

Sea Scouting has the same purpose and goals as any other Scout Group however, the main difference lays in the method of delivery. This is because in Sea Scouting, water and nautical activities are used as the basis of delivering the Balanced Programme. Although most Scouts have the opportunity for boating activities, such as sailing and canoeing, the Sea Scout programme puts considerable emphasis on water activities and also incorporates many aspects of naval and nautical traditions.
The Group covers the following age ranges catered for by the Scout Movement:
• Cubs - age 8 to 10 and half
• Scouts - age 10 and a half to 14
