Recent records have shown that my grandfather was in the Kent Artillery Militia before joining the 1st Royal Dragoons on 26 May 1898.

His father was James Ware, and some Assembly rooms were opened in 1849 built by Thomas Ware. Is there a connection?

All I can tell you is that Thomas Ware (1817-1892) and his wife Charlotte had a son Frederick (1849-1892).

As he was their second son, there was evidently at least one other. I think you need to see what other children they had.

Have you tried http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp, which is free but not entirely accurate, but still worth a look?
