I am writing a feature, which will include the press-gang abduction of young Michael Greenwood. He was taken while returning home from school, as he crossed Market Square.
There is a story he was not alone when taken, and a school "chum" was taken at the same time. Both were pressed into service and for many years served together afloat.
Has anyone heard this story before? He and his chum were pupils at the Grammar School, in Shooting Meadow. This was 1748!
Grateful for any help.
Thank you
