Abel's Acre, Forbes Road, Faversham, is a riot of colour in spring
The Friends of Abel's Acre is a voluntary group that looks after Faversham's Forbes Road rockery.
Planting, maintenance and funding of this prominent site are carried out by the Abel's Acre volunteers, with support from Swale Council, Blenwood Grounds Maintenance and Swale in Bloom.
The Friends group was established in 2003 to ensure the continued well-being of the Forbes Road rockery, which in the 1960s was under the care of Walter Abel, parks superintendent of the former Faversham Borough Council, from whose surname its "Abel's Acre" nickname arose. His daughter, Hazel Burford, is the group's founding chairman.
The group welcomes volunteers for its gardening sessions, held on weekdays, and also welcomes donations. The volunteers hold fund-raising events to support the cost of maintaining Abel's Acre.
The Abel's Acre logo was designed, at no cost to the group, by Alwyn's Artcard, Faversham, and features on the sweatshirts worn by the volunteers while keeping this corner of the town looking pretty.
