Kent Downs

To the south of Faversham and stretching across the whole of the southern part of the Faversham area are the beautiful Kent Downs.

Kent DownsThe Kent Downs are the eastern half of the North Downs covering nearly a quarter of Kent, stretching from the White Cliffs at Dover up to the Surrey and London borders.

It is a diverse and vibrant landscape with its dramatic chalk escarpments, secluded dry valleys, networks of tiny lanes and historic hedgerows, ancient woodlands, traditional orchards, locally distinctive villages, unique and precious wildlife and many sites of historic and cultural interest to explore.

The Kent Downs has a great deal to offer whether you are visiting for a hour, a day or a week !

An extensive rights of way network enables you to explore the countryside on foot, cycle and horseback.

SheldwichThe Kent Downs has a wealth of historic sites and there are many fascinating and beautiful villages with an enormous variety of places to eat and drink.

Villages and communities are an integral part of the Kent Downs AONB. The architecture, form, people, and history give the AONB its unique sense of place. Villages provide us with evidence to help us discover how the Kent Downs has been developed and used by different groups of people. This in turn has influenced the landscape we see today.
Communities are vital in sustaining the Kent Downs as a living, working landscape, providing markets for local produce, management for the land and an interest in maintaining and celebrating local distinctiveness.
