Edward Jacob 1
(c1713-1788) was the author of History of Faversham
(1774) and Plantae Favershamienses
(1777), listing uncommon plants in the area. A surgeon at his home, 76 Preston Street, Faversham, he was four times Mayor of Faversham. In 1770, he published an edition of Arden of Faversham
, in which he raised the question of whether the play was Shakespeare’s, a topic still sparking academic debate. The nearby Fleur de Lis Heritage Centre
has a display about Jacob.
